Volunteer Programs
Our volunteer program is divided into groups based on interest and stage of life:
- Adults – College students and older individuals seeking to serve year-round
- Ambassadors – High school juniors and seniors from Athens City and Limestone County schools
- Chaplains – Ordained ministers providing spiritual support
- Summer Program – High school juniors and college students participating during the summer months
Volunteer positions are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are reviewed individually, and while placement cannot be guaranteed, applicant preferences are taken into consideration.
Areas of Service
Volunteers may serve in a variety of roles throughout the hospital, including:
- Guest Services – Patient and visitor interaction for those who enjoy working with people
- Clerical Services – File management, data entry and administrative support
- Event Services – Outreach and fundraising events that connect the hospital to the community

Volunteer Requirements
All individuals participating in volunteer programs must:
- Complete an application
- Participate in an interview (as applicable)
- Attend volunteer orientation
- Complete Employee Health requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all assignments
Onboarding Process
- Submit Application: Complete the online application
- Applicant Review & Contact: Service Excellence team reviews and contacts applicants
- Employee Health Appointment: Complete required health screenings
- Orientation: Attend orientation and receive badge
- Begin Service: Start scheduled volunteer shifts with departmental training
Ambassador Program
“Seeking the Difference”
The Athens-Limestone Hospital Ambassadors program is designed for high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. A selection committee will interview and select a diverse group of students from local schools to participate during the academic year.
Ambassador Program
Athens-Limestone Hospital Ambassadors are provided opportunities to:
- Participate in bi-monthly Lunch and Learn lectures and service line tours
- Earn valuable community service hours for college preparation
- Work with people from diverse backgrounds and generations
- Explore a variety of healthcare career paths
- Develop communication, leadership, teamwork and service skills
- Build relationships for future college and career references
- Represent Athens-Limestone Hospital at community and hospital events
Ambassador Program Requirements
- Must be a current junior or senior at an eligible local high school
- Minimum 3.5 GPA
- Friendly, outgoing demeanor
- Strong communication skills
- Must attend hospital orientation
- Commitment to bi-monthly Lunch and Learn sessions
- Commitment to 20 service hours per program year
- Participation in designated hospital and community events
Ambassador Service Opportunities
Ambassadors may serve in the following roles:
- Greeting patients and visitors at hospital entrances
- Delivering flowers or gifts to patients
- Providing directions throughout the facility
- Supporting departmental projects and initiatives
- Assisting with foundation and fundraising events
Job Shadowing Program
The student job shadowing program provides opportunities for students to learn more about specific health care careers through first hand observation in the workplace.
