Visitor Hours & Guidelines
Visitors play an important role in the healing process, and Athens-Limestone Hospital welcomes family and friends as part of each patient’s support system. While patient care remains our top priority, recommended visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to help ensure a restful environment.
Children are welcome to visit, but we encourage keeping visits brief and mindful of patient needs and safety. Visiting hours for specialized areas, such as the Intensive Care Unit, may vary and are posted at each department entrance. For additional guidance, please check with the care team on the unit.

Gift Shop
The gift shop is located on the second floor, easily accessible from the Sanders Street entrance. In addition to its’ limited Starbucks menu, the shop has a variety of food and drink items, gift items, baby gift items, costume jewelry, magazines, balloons, and greeting cards. To reach the gift shop, please call 256-233-9521 or inside the hospital dial extension 1521. The gift shop is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Cafeteria

The cafeteria at Athens-Limestone Hospital is located on the first floor and offers a variety of meal options for visitors and staff, with selections to meet a range of tastes and dietary needs. Vending machines are also available on the third floor near One Day Admission for added convenience.
Monday – Friday
Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.
Lunch: 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.Saturday & Sunday
7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Visitation Details
Patient Visitation Rights
Patients have the right to designate the visitors they wish to receive during their hospitalization. Visitation will not be restricted or denied on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
Patients may withdraw or deny visitation consent at any time.
Support Persons
Patients may designate a support person to exercise visitation rights on their behalf if they are unable to do so.
A designated support person may exercise visitation rights but does not have medical decision-making authority unless separately granted.
Safety & Health Guidelines
To protect patients and staff:
- Visitors must be free from fever or visible signs of illness
- Visitors must not have recent exposure to communicable disease
- Visitors must follow isolation precautions when applicable
- The number of visitors at the bedside may be limited for safety and space considerations
During emergency situations, visitors may be asked to step out temporarily.
ICU and Department-specific Guidelines
Certain departments may have additional visitation guidelines, including:
- Behavioral health
- Emergency department
- Pediatric ICU
- Neonatal units
- Labor and delivery
Please check with unit staff for department-specific guidance.
Tobacco-free Campus Policy
HH Health maintains a strict tobacco-free policy across all facilities and properties. Smoking, vaping and the use of any tobacco or nicotine products — including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices and smokeless tobacco — are not permitted inside buildings, in outdoor areas such as entrances and parking lots, in hospital-owned vehicles or at any HH Health location. This policy applies to everyone. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, healthy and healing environment for everyone.
Supporting Patients Who Use Tobacco
HH Health recognizes that quitting tobacco can be challenging. Patients who use tobacco products are encouraged to speak with their care team about available resources and support options during their hospital stay.
