Volunteers are a vital part of the care experience at Decatur Morgan Hospital. From greeting visitors and assisting in the Gift Shop to transporting patients and supporting hospital departments, our volunteers help create a welcoming and compassionate environment for patients, families and staff.
In addition to supporting hospital operations, volunteer groups represent Decatur Morgan Hospital throughout the community, extending our mission beyond the walls of the hospital. Local clergy also give their time by providing chaplain services, offering spiritual support and comfort to patients, visitors and team members. Volunteer
Requirements
All volunteers, including those participating in observation or shadowing programs, must complete the following:
- Volunteer orientation attendance
- TB skin test within the past 12 months
- Proof of required immunizations
- Completion of required paperwork and background screening if applicable
Teen Ambassador Program
The Teen Ambassador Program is a prestigious youth volunteer initiative designed for high school students who are passionate about serving others and interested in exploring careers in healthcare. Ambassadors will play a vital role in enhancing the hospital experience for patients, families, and staff, while developing essential life and leadership skills.
Purpose
- Foster a spirit of service and civic engagement among teens.
- Provide meaningful exposure to healthcare careers.
- Support hospital operations through exceptional volunteer service.
- Encourage personal and professional growth in a real-world setting.
Program Highlights
- Service Opportunities: Ambassadors will support hospital teams across a variety of departments such as patient services, information desks, outpatient care and family support areas.
- Educational Experiences: Students will participate in guided learning sessions, mentorship activities and career talks with healthcare professionals.
- Professional Development: Ambassadors will receive training in customer service, communication and hospital protocols to ensure a high level of professionalism and impact.
Eligibility Criteria
- High school students ages 15–18
- Demonstrated passion for volunteerism and helping others
- Commitment to serve a minimum of 16 hours per week during the program
- Strong academic standing and character references
- Parental consent and school approval required
- Application and Selection Process
Interested students must submit:
- A completed application form
- A personal statement expressing interest in the program
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or community leader
- A signed parental/guardian consent form
- A copy of their most recent report card or transcript
