At Decatur Morgan Hospital, we are committed to reducing health care disparities by ensuring every patient can communicate effectively with their care team. One of our key focus areas is improving access for patients with limited English proficiency.
We collect each patient’s preferred spoken language for health care at the time of registration and use this information to guide care delivery. To support this effort, we have invested in developing a team of medically qualified interpreters. We are proud to now have nine medically qualified interpreters on staff, with Spanish being the most commonly requested language among our patient population. These interpreters play a vital role in enhancing patient understanding, satisfaction and safety.
By identifying language needs and equipping staff with specialized training, we are making measurable progress toward delivering care that is not only high-quality but also culturally and linguistically appropriate.
