Volunteer Opportunities at Helen Keller Hospital
Volunteers play an important role in supporting the care experience at Helen Keller Hospital. From assisting staff and welcoming visitors to supporting hospital programs and services, volunteers help create a compassionate and supportive environment for patients, families and team members.
The Keller Volunteer Program was established in 1960 by local resident Louise Isbell Ashe, who recognized the value of community involvement in patient care. Since then, the program has continued to grow, providing meaningful support to both the hospital and the communities we serve. We are grateful for the time, energy and dedication our volunteers bring to Helen Keller Hospital each day.

Volunteer
Opportunities
Volunteers may serve in a variety of roles, including:
- Greeting and assisting visitors
- Supporting patient care units
- Assisting in the Gift Shop
- Providing administrative support
- Offering spiritual care as volunteer chaplains
- Participating in auxiliary or community outreach programs
Volunteer opportunities are based on hospital needs and individual interests.

Volunteer
Requirements
All volunteers, including those participating in observation or shadowing programs, must complete the following:
- Volunteer orientation attendance
- TB skin test within the past 12 months
- Proof of required immunizations
- Completion of required paperwork and background screening if applicable
Teen Volunteer Program
The Teen Volunteer Program provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in a health care setting while giving back to their community. Participants support hospital staff and departments while learning valuable skills related to patient care and service.
Volunteer Requirements
The following items are required for all individuals participating in volunteer or shadow/observation programs:
- Attendance at volunteer orientation (with a parent or guardian if under 18)
- Evidence of a TB skin test within the past 12 months
- Proof of required immunizations
Eligibility
- Must be at least 14 years of age
- Must be a current student
- Parental consent is required for volunteers under 18 years of age
