Preparing for Surgery
Your surgeon will provide instructions specific to your procedure. Following these instructions carefully helps ensure a safe surgery and smooth recovery.

Before Your Procedure
Eating and Drinking
If your procedure will be performed under sedation or anesthesia, you may be instructed not to eat or drink for a specified period before surgery. Your care team will provide detailed instructions based on your procedure.
Medications
Continue taking medications only as directed by your surgeon or health care provider. Be sure to tell your care team about all prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Do not stop or change any medications unless instructed by your healthcare provider.
Transportation
If you will receive sedation or anesthesia, you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure. You should not drive or operate machinery until your surgeon says it is safe to do so.
What to Wear
On the day of your procedure:
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
- Leave jewelry and other valuables at home.
- Do not wear contact lenses unless instructed otherwise.
- Avoid makeup, lipstick and nail polish if possible.
Before You Arrive
Please arrive at the office at the time provided by our staff to allow time for registration and preparation.
Bring:
- Photo ID
- Insurance card
- List of current medications
- Method of payment, if applicable
- Completed patient forms (if not submitted in advance)
After Your Procedure
Recovery varies depending on the procedure performed. Before you leave, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions specific to your treatment.
General recovery recommendations may include:
Managing Swelling
Swelling is common after oral surgery and typically improves over several days. Your surgeon may recommend using ice packs and keeping your head elevated during the first 24 to 48 hours.
Activity
Plan to rest after your procedure. Avoid strenuous activity until your surgeon advises it is safe to resume normal activities.
Diet
You may be instructed to begin with soft foods and plenty of fluids before gradually returning to your normal diet.
Oral Hygiene
Your surgeon will provide instructions on brushing, rinsing and caring for the surgical area during healing.
Medications
